Records Division

Records Division is responsible for the filing system of all Offense Reports made to the Liberty County Sheriff's Office.  Open Records requests are handled by the Records Division to assist individuals, attorneys, insurance companies and private investigators.  Records Division also interfaces with other agencies such as local county and district attorneys, local parole and probation offices, DPS, State Attorney General's Office, Justice of the Peace Offices, FBI/NICS, U.S. Bureau of Personnel, other Texas Law Enforcement Agencies, other Texas Counties, and out of state agencies.  The Records Division is also responsible for all Uniform Crime Reporting to the state on a monthly basis, and accumulates auxiliary information for Racial Profiling Report required yearly.  Records Division is available Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (closed 12:00 noon - 1:00 p.m. for lunch).

 Q. How to get a copy of a report?
 A. Fill out a request form in the office, or send a fax or email to request a report.
   
 Q. What needs to be included on open records request?
 A.
  • Your name
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Case number (or all info you have regarding your request if no case number is available)
  • Return fax number 
  • A brief summary of what you are requesting
   
 Q. How much does an open records request cost?
 A. No charge for the first 10 pages, more than 10 pages, the charge will be 10 cents per page. Pictures on CD will cost $1.00 per CD. There could be additional charges for extensive searches made for information.
   
 Q. How long does an open records request take?
 A. Requests are answered in the order they are received. It could take up to 10 days (excluding weekends and holidays) to respond to a request if an extensive search for the requested information is required. This may incur additional charges for extensive searches.
   
 Q. Can I get a copy of my entire report?
 A. Only closed cases are available for open records requests. Cases still under investigation are not released to the public, even if it is being requested by the person that filed the report.
