Apr 18, 2013

An early morning crime spree of armed robberies by a lone gunman was ended after he robbed the Circle “B” grocery store located at Hwy. 321 and CR 318 in Liberty County with a .357 caliber hand gun. Joint cooperation from various law enforcement agencies working together quickly brought this dangerous situation to a halt. The first armed robbery occurred in the city of Cleveland at a gas station located at Houston Ave. and Washington Street. The Cleveland Police Department is investigating that case and should be contacted for their details.

Apparently, after robbing the station in Cleveland, the suspect later identified as Daniel Wade Hornback, went into Montgomery County where he held up another station located at 1168 Fosteria Lane. There, the robbery suspect shot the store owner in his leg and fled the scene. The Montgomery Sheriff’s Department is investigating that case and should be contacted for their details.

Daniel Hornback then came back into Liberty County where he robbed the Circle ‘B” store at approximately 7:30am and once again fled the robbery scene is what was reported to be a gray or silver van. Several law enforcement agencies including the DPS, Cleveland Police Department, Constables and the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department saturated all possible escape routes from the Hwy. 321 and CR 318 location.

At approximately 7:40am, Cpl. James McQueen and his partner, Dep. Rubin Arellano observed the described 1999 Dodge van in the 900 block of CR 318 where Daniel Hornback was pulled over and arrested while still in possession of the .357 caliber handgun he has used in each of the robberies. Property from the previous robberies was found in his van and his possession.

Charges of Aggravated robbery was filed against Daniel Wade Hornback who has a record for drug offenses and is reported to be wanted on a Family Violence warrant out of Montgomery County. As of this writing, no bond has been set and the suspect is presently in the Liberty County jail.
