ATV CRASH AND 5 TEEN RIDERS ON BOARD
Apr 20, 2013
On April 20, 2013, an afternoon pleasure ride for four (4) teen
age girls and one (1) teen age boy on an ATV equipped with a front and back
seat turned into a “roll over” accident that resulted in severe lower extremity
injuries to two of the occupants while the other three escaped without serious
injuries. Deputies Gordon Bean and William Candelari responded to the 4;pm call
on CR 624 and CR 6242 where preliminary investigation indicated the teens were
traveling on CR 624 and upon making a turn onto CR 6242, at what apparently was
an unsafe speed, rolled the ATV resulting in the injuries.
Deputy Bean reported that one 13 year old girl, who was
reported to be the driver, had a severe lower left leg injury while a second girl
had a severe left foot injury. Liberty County EMS arrived on the scene and
rendered immediate medical assistance while Life Flight landed at the crash site
and airlifted both injured teens to Herman Hospital, Their immediate medical
condition is not known.
The Department of Public Safety is conducting the crash
scene investigation and at present no charges have been filed but, perhaps, are
pending depending upon the results of the investigation.
