LCSO HIGH SPEED PURSUIT AND ARREST ON SEVERAL CHARGES

Dec 20, 2013

What should have been a routine family disturbance call, on Christmas day, elevated into a high speed car chase that involved three (3) different law enforcement agencies and resulted in the arrest of EDGAR EARL TAYLOR (WM), DOB 10/10/73, for Felony Evading Arrest and Possession of a Controlled Substance with other possible charges pending.

At approximately 7:39 pm on Wednesday, December 25th. Liberty County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Nugent responded to a domestic disturbance call with a possible weapon involved and a violation of a Protective Order on FM 563 in the South-East part of the county. Upon his arrival, Deputy Nugent observed a pick-up truck accelerate at a high rate of speed, through the front yard of the residence and a ditch, heading north towards Hwy. 90. The pick-up truck quickly reached speeds of ninety (90) miles an hour as Deputy Nugent broadcast a high speed chase.

Very quickly, Sgt. Joel Davila and Deputy Reuben Arellano of the LCSO as well as DPS Troopers Cory Davis and Nathaniel Godfrey along with a Liberty Police Department unit responded to the chase. As Edgar Taylor neared Hwy. 90, the Liberty Police Unit deployed a “stop stick” in the roadway that punctured the fleeing vehicle’s left front tire. Even with the punctured tire, Taylor again reached speeds of 90 MPH after he turned east on Hwy. 90. Soon  Taylor’s pick-up truck began to slow as the damaged tire began to shred and come apart. Edgar Taylor turned into a business and across a small field where his vehicle struck a sign and stalled. When ordered out of his vehicle, Taylor refused to exit his vehicle and a window had to be broken out to gain custody of Taylor.

A loaded rifle and two unloaded shotguns were found in Taylor’s vehicle as well as a packet of what later tested to be Methamphetamine.

Edgar Earl Taylor was placed in the Liberty County jail and is being held on what turned out to be a Temporary Restraining Order. He was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with other possible charges pending.
