STOLEN A & M BOAT
Jun 06, 2013
This week has not been kind to Liberty County’s local Public
Service organizations. On Tuesday evening of this week a burglary and felony
theft was discovered at the Moss Bluff Volunteer Fire Department which disabled
all their fire trucks and has shut that group of Fire Fighters totally down so
they are presently unable to respond to fire calls.
Then, on Wednesday, June 5th. Sheriff’s Deputy J. McQueen Jr. responded to
a call from a Texas A & M Forest Service employee who reported that on June
3rd. at approximately 3:pm he
was in that agency’s 14’ aluminum flat bottom boat when he pulled onto the
shore approximately two (2) miles north of the Trinity River Hwy. 105 bridge to
measure a research plot. Because the
employee would be deep into the wooded area, and as a precautionary measure,
the Officer removed the outboard motor from his boat and hid it on shore while
he would be away from his boat.
The employee reported that while in the woods, he heard an
outboard motor on the river which stopped near his location. In a few minutes
it started up again and went up the river. Only a short time later the Officer
heard the motor again which once again shut down for a short time. It then
started again and faded away up the Trinity River. When the Officer returned to
where he had beached the boat, he found it was missing.
The boat is described as being a 2002 14’ “Basstracker” aluminum flat bottom boat that is colored
gray on gray. The model is TX-6829JR and the serial # is BUJ11138K102. It is
valued at $1,500 to $2,000 which, of course, makes this a felony theft offense.
All information has been entered into the State’s stolen data base and it would
be unwise for anyone to be found in possession of this boat.
The Liberty County Sheriff’s Department is asking that if
anyone has any information on the whereabouts of this boat or the person or
persons who stole it, to report that information to the department at (936)
336-4500. Your name will be kept confidential.
In addition, it would be a wise decision on the part of the
person or persons that stole this boat
to see that it is returned by leaving it at some safe location and make a phone
call to the Sheriff’s Department as to where it can be recovered. Being found
in possession of this boat on the river or on one’s property is not a good
