Apr 05, 2013

A shooting occurred in the 300 block of C.R. 2120 in Trinity River Lake Estates on April 4, 2013. Preliminary investigation by Liberty County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) Sergeant Darrell Elliott indicated Ronald Hamshire, 68, and his live-in girlfriend Brenda Anderson, 48, were involved in an argument. At some point in the argument, Anderson retrieved a handgun and confronted Hamshire. A struggle over the weapon ensued and the gun discharged. Hamshire was wounded in his chest. Hamshire was able to grab the gun away from Anderson. He then drove away from the scene to get help.

Ronald Hamshire drove himself to the Country Store at the corner of S.H. 146 and F.M. 787 in Rye, TX. It was there a store clerk saw Mr. Hamshire and his injury, and phoned 911 for help. LCSO deputies and Liberty County EMS arrived on the scene a short time later. EMS provided treatment for Mr. Hamshire, but against medical advice, he refused to be transported to a hospital. LCSO Sergeant Investigator Billy Knox processed the crime scene at the Country Store. LCSO Sergeant Investigator Joel Davila and patrol deputies went to the residence on C.R. 2120 to speak with Brenda Anderson and process that crime scene.

Brenda Anderson was taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff’s Office in Liberty. She was cooperative with investigators. Brenda Anderson was then booked-in to the Liberty County Jail for the offense of Aggravated Assault-Family Violence with a Deadly Weapon. Her bond was set on the morning of April 5, 2013 by Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Stephen Hebert at $100,000.

Later in the morning of Friday, April 5th, Ronald Hamshire did go to Liberty-Dayton Hospital for further treatment of his injury.
